Glamour Coupon App

Client

Ringier is a leading European media company owning more than 100 media & entertainment brands, digital marketplaces and sports media. Publisher of the glossy Glamour magazine title.

Challenge

Glamour Coupon Days was a print magazine based coupon activity that took place once or twice a year. Our task was to design and build a continuously running digital audience-engagement platform and open up a new revenue stream for the publisher.

Solution

In the first phase of the project, our aim was to authentically and enjoyably recreate the well-known experience of Glamour magazine’s printed coupon days in a digital environment. To this end, we developed two native mobile applications (iOS and Android), supported by a flexible backend and an administration system. On the admin interface, the Ringier team can independently manage coupons, promotions, coupon booklets, and magazine content—making content updates and event management a fast and transparent process.

The foundation of the digital ecosystem is a central CMS (Content Management System), which serves not only the mobile applications but also the website for Glamour’s audience. This system ensures that users have access to up-to-date coupons, articles, and magazine content on all platforms. The central CMS is thus the core of Glamour’s online presence, through which the editorial team can dynamically shape the user experience and theme current campaigns and content.

A key element of the monetization strategy was the integration of a paywall system, which allows users to subscribe to premium, paid content not only through the App Store or Google Play, but also directly with Ringier. The system manages and administers subscriptions, coordinating purchases from different platforms in a unified way. With this solution, the publisher gains full control over revenue processes while providing users with a convenient, seamless payment experience.

We paid special attention to making the apps intuitive and enjoyable to use: searching for, activating, and redeeming coupons can be done simply, in just a few steps. The system architecture was engineered to ensure the application scales reliably to tens of thousands of daily users during peak coupon periods while maintaining seamless performance.

During development, we delivered not just technical solutions but a complete digital experience system that redefined the Glamour brand’s online presence. The app proved successful not only during coupon days but also built a paying user base and an active user community in the interim periods - who can now enjoy magazine content anywhere, anytime. In these interim periods, our Pushwize messaging service plays a key role in maintaining user engagement and reader’s and user’s activity.

Results

A significant new digital revenue stream was successfully opened. Today, the Glamour Coupon App is the local No.1 digital coupon application, available on both Android and iOS, with tens of thousands of active users. The development made it possible for the previously paper-based coupon days to be realized conveniently and sustainably in a fully digital format. The events have expanded from two to four times a year, and user activity has remained high even outside coupon days.

Thanks to the ad-free magazine experience and regularly updated content, the app has created a lasting connection between the brand and its readers. The Glamour Coupon App is not just a successful product, but a sustainable and experience-focused digital innovation that has modernized coupon culture in Hungary.
