Problem

Our Client approached us to assist in developing a digital solution to commission its new lighting product. Since one of the main cost drivers of the commissioning process is the installation time, cost savings can be achieved by decreasing the time experts need to spend on system setup.

Solution

After the joint product discovery and user research, a mobile application has been designed to provide an efficient, easy-to-use way for human centric lighting system installations. MONDRIAAN developed native iOS and Android applications that can communicate with the Client’s control unit via Bluetooth LE to create Zigbee networks of luminaires and provide over the air (OTA) firmware updates.

Results

The Client’s system received numerous awards and highly positive customer feedback after the market entry. Thanks to MONDRIAAN’s contribution, light commissioners can quickly set up the new systems thus reducing their cost per installation.

Answer

Previously, setting up a lighting system required manual work of an electrician for each luminaire, typically done by using a notebook. MONDRIAAN proposed a handheld application to optimize complex processes.

Solution

The iPad app visualises the device mesh-network and moves the configuration to a mobile device. The solution enables easy luminaire commissioning, room configuration and energy consumption monitoring.

Results

Decreased system set up time, reduced unwanted energy usage.

The complex process of commissioning an IoT structure required highly trained personnel, despite the fact that the abovementioned digital commissioning approach significantly cut setup times. The LightSweep Digital solution still relied on technical expertise and had too wide feature set.

In order to simplify the process, a new iOS app with wireless communication was developed to complement the smart lighting system.
